Word of mouth marketing: an effective promotional tool

Online marketing

"No matter what they say, it's important that they say" is a slogan that fits perfectly into the vision of a classic whisper. What exactly is word of mouth marketing? And does it really work?

What is word of mouth marketing?

Whisper marketing is, as the name suggests, "whispering" to consumers about a given brand, its products or services and their advantages, in order to create natural, unforced buzz around the brand. It results in voluntary, spontaneous discussions about the brand, which clearly affect its recognition, and may also lead to increased sales or creating a competitive advantage on the market.

Messages created in word-of-mouth marketing, unlike classic advertising, do not in any way persuade recipients to buy. The task of word of mouth marketing is to present the advantages of products or services in a way that is most suited to the context of the discussion.

Are you looking for an effective way to create buzz around your brand?

We know how to do it effectively!

How to whisper, or types of word of mouth marketing

Word of mouth marketing can be done in many ways. The most popular are:

  • product seeding - providing product testers, the so-called opinion leaders on the Internet (including influencers) who review them and advertise them in some way,
  • viral marketing - creating content that users will be willing to share further (e.g. memes, gifs, funny videos),
  • community marketing - promoting products in highly specialized, niche communities, closed groups, fan clubs, discussion forums, etc.,
  • trendsetting - involving influencers (e.g. celebrities) in creating new trends with the use of specific products,
  • brand blogging - using blogs to promote products, services, etc.,
  • evangelist marketing - creating a group of consumers who strongly identify with the brand and want to promote it among their friends,
  • cause marketing - support for social initiatives important to target group, in order to gain her trust.

Is it really worth it?

We have written about the strength of recommendations on the Internet many times. Research shows that potential customers often consult others before buying specific products or using certain services. According to WWH, over 90% consumers trust online opinions to the same extent as the recommendations of their relatives.

The use of word of mouth marketing, otherwise known as buzz marketing, is a great way to raise brand awareness in specific target groups, build a positive image and encourage new recipients to get to know the brand's offer. This, in turn, may translate into increased sales and real profits.
